Marvin Vincent looks over a fresh-off-the-press copy of "Traditions," a Denison Alumni Association newsletter.

TRADITIONS

Fall 2005

"Traditions," the Denison Alumni Associationís fall 2005 newsletter, should be in the hands of members this week and requests already are being received for extra copies.

The 24-page newsletter is more like a magazine with the slick pages and the front and back cover a continuous 1940s photo of Denison High School complete with a school bus near the entrance. An earlier photo of the school is superimposed on the top of the back cover page.

Inside the front and back cover are montages of pictures of students today and through the years put together by Joe Duggan, who recently moved back to Denison from California.

A few extra copies of the newsletter are available at $5 a copy, but the best bargain is to join the Association for 2006 with a $10 membership fee and receive the Fall 2005 newsletter as a bonus plus the Spring and Fall 2006 newsletters. Lifetime memberships also are available for $100.

Inside the newsletter are stories and pictures of the six Distinguished Alumni, the 2005 inductee into the Sports Hall of Fame, and the Associationís first recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Thereís a story and photo of the first Lady Yellow Jacket Basketball team, many photos of the Denison Homecoming Parade and alumni reception, a feature with pictures of students at Layne School and a story and photos of an alumni couple trapped in Cozumel, Mexico during a hurricane there in October.

The Association is making available a limited number of 11 by 17-inch color ready-to-frame copies of the collectorís print of the old high school at $20 each. Prints can be ordered from Marvin Vincent or from the Denison Alumni Association, 1201 South Rusk Ave, Denison, TX 75020.

Vincent said that a few photo CDs of the 2005 Homecoming Parade and Alumni Reception still are available. Both CDís can be purchased at $15 or individual CDs of the parade and reception are available at $10 each.

These CDs also are available from Vincent or the Alumni Association in Denison.

The Association is already at work on the spring 2006 edition of Traditions and photos and stories are being solicited. Memories of school days, stories before and after class reunions, photos from school days as well as today and information on Denison school alumni are being sought. Alumni input is needed not only for the newsletter but also for the Associationís web page, which can be visited at www.denisonalumniassociation.com.

School and Lake Texoma pictures from days gone by are especially needed for the newsletter.

All material can be mailed or e-mailed to Lisa Crawley at Denison ISD, 1201 S. Rusk. A stamped, self-addressed envelope should be included if the material is to be returned. Otherwise it will be added to the Alumni archives which now are being stored at the Administration building until a location to display the collection is available. - Donna Hunt
